  • 5 large egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • 3 tablespoons rum (the original recipe calls for banana liqueur; rum worked)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed
